RUN FOR VISION 10K – BIRMINGHAM (Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield)

Run with Salam and Give the Gift of Vision

Lace up your trainers and run with us! Team Salam is prepping for a sponsored 10k in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. We’ll be raising much-needed funds to pay for cataract surgery and save people from blindness.

How will you be helping?

Cataracts are common symptoms of the ageing process but, left untreated, can eventually cause blindness. Surgery is quick and simple: at our mobile eye clinics, qualified doctors remove cataracts at a cost of around £40 per person.

Who can join this challenge?

It’s suitable for runners and beginners who are willing to train. We’ll be running as part of Birmingham’s Running Festival, taking a scenic route through Sutton Park. Already a confident runner? Get your sponsorship pages up and running (we’ll give you a link when you register). Never attempted a 5k before, let alone a 10k? You can do it – even if you’re sitting down right now. Download a training app and start slowly with interval training. Running across the finish line in May will be a huge accomplishment!

Give the Gift of Vision for £40

Running a mobile ‘eye camp’ costs £2500 per day. But this includes everything needed to provide advice and treatment to 500 people. Our qualified staff will give out free glasses and eye drops to those who need them. Usually around 10% will require cataract surgery. As part of the service, those people will receive:

• Transportation to and from the clinic
• Food (3 meals) and accommodation
• Tests: blood sugar, ECG, etc
• Aftercare – including black glasses and a free follow-up appointment.
• ... at a total cost of £40, which will quite literally save their vision.
