Mount Toubkal Trek 2022
International Charity Challenge: Mount Toubkal 2022
Challenging yourself to conquer the highest mountain in North Africa, whilst helping to build the future of thousands through our education and vocational training projects.
This tough, but incredibly rewarding, challenge combines the unforgettable scenery of the High Atlas Mountains with the splendour and colour of Marrakech. It will see you climbing and scrambling over the huge boulders and rocks of northern Africa’s tallest peak – Jebel Toubkal, standing at a whopping 4,167m!
Although not technically climbing, the weather and terrain make this challenge physically challenging, therefore, a good level of fitness is essential. We finish in the vibrant city of Marrakech, where the southern tribesmen and Berber villagers bring their goods to the souks.
The cause
Salam Charity is committed to working with vulnerable communities around the world to ensure children and adults are able to have access to quality education and vocational training. Often it is factors such as poverty, gender and location which prevents children from receiving an education. Today, more than 600 million children fail to achieve the minimum proficiency in reading and mathematics. Often it is also a lack of capacity which limits the learning potential of children such as inadequate facilities or shortfall of well-trained teachers.
In 2022, Salam Charity will be working to rehabilitate schools, provide equipment and support schools to deliver quality educational programmes for all children.
By focusing on rural communities which often see the highest levels of gender imbalance in educational attainment and greater risk of children dropping out due to work commitments, we will be working holistically with local partners to ensure children are given the opportunity to gain a valuable education and a way out of the cycle of poverty.
